Welcome to the Harvard Habitat Blog

In line with Habitat for Humanity’s advocacy mission, we’re kicking off this blog on all things housing-related in Cambridge, Boston, Massachusetts and beyond, to bring attention to the many barriers faced by those seeking safe, adequate and affordable housing. In Massachusetts, 1 in 6 families spend more than half their income on housing; the median house price in Boston has increased by 25% in the past 5 years; and in 2022, more than 500 people in Cambridge were found to have no home on any given night.

Beyond helping to build a more inclusive world, we want to promote and advocate for policy solutions and raise awareness about the importance of housing for all. We welcome submissions from the Harvard community on any housing-related topics, especially related to affordability, equity, accessibility and sustainability. To start things off, we’re discussing the history of housing in Boston across its neighborhoods - stay tuned, and join us on our mission to make the world a livable, safe and inclusive place for all!
